Weddings, Pregnancy and your friendly Orthodontist!

This time I thought it would be a good idea to talk about some of the important milestones in many people’s lives, Marriage, Pregnancy and Braces!

I often meet ‘a would be bride/groom’ a few months before their wedding. They organised the venue, the photographer and the band as soon as the date was set. As the big day approaches, they decide that maybe they would like to have their teeth straighter for those expensive photos! After I have had the pleasure of meeting them, carrying out a full orthodontic assessment and telling them what their treatment entails, they let me know that it all sounds good but they need it done in half the time! I often say to my patients, who are engaged, that I get more stressed out about their wedding than I ever did about my own! Time certainly is precious when it comes to orthodontics. Yes you will see an improvement in your teeth after a few months of treatment but an ideal finish takes time. My advice would be, after you have told your parents, family and friends, give us a call at Hennessy Orthodontics and we will make sure you have the braces over and done with well before the big day. We might even have you brace free and smiling for the Hen/Stag!

I thought this blog would be a good time to mention that braces are safe during pregnancy. Many expectant mothers have asked me if they should delay/stop treatment because they are pregnant. Thankfully braces will not interfere with your pregnancy. It is important to make sure your brushing and oral hygiene is good while the braces are on because gums can swell a little easier while all those pregnancy hormones are flying around.

Keep smiling,

Joe
